French Toast

À votre santé is certainly one kind of French toast, but I had the following more in mind…

Mix together:

  • Two or three eggs beaten in a pie plate
  • 1/4 cup milk or cream
  • 1/2 tsp of vanilla
  • Cinnamon to taste
  • Tsp of brown sugar
  • A splash of Grand Marnier (optional)

In a large frying pan, bring a pat of melted butter and a bit of olive oil to a medium high heat. (Don’t burn the butter!)

Dip both sides of the bread of your choice into the egg mixture. The bread should be on the thick side, (I like Texas toast for this) and resist the urge to totally saturate the slices. Quickly place in the hot frying pan. Brown on both sides (about a minute or two on each).

Remove, place on a plate and drizzle with maple syrup. For an extra touch, lightly dust with icing sugar and/or garnish with fresh berries on the side. Adding a few chocolate or butterscotch chips on top will complete the decadent experience.

This should do 3 or 4 slices of bread.

Here is a sauce that might be nice instead of the usual maple syrup:

Sauce

4 TBS butter

4 TBS Grand Marnier

1 TBS vanilla

1 cup confectioners sugar

In a saucepan, melt the butter, add in the Grand Marnier and bring to a boil for just a minute. Remove from heat and add in vanilla and confectioners sugar, whisk until smooth.

I really should change this French toast recipe and use only one egg, because one egg is “un oeuf”.
