Description

O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM arranged for Brass Quintet & Organ by
J. SCOTT IRVINE

Programme Notes:

O Little Town of Bethlehem in its original version, dates from 1868, and has its roots in Philadelphia where Phillips Brooks, Rector of the Church of the Holy Trinity, wrote the words and his organist, Lewis Redner, penned the music. In the early 20th century, the celebrated English composer, Ralph Vaughan Williams, created a British version of the carol when he took Brooks’ words and set them to an old English folk tune, Forest Green. Both melodies find their way into this arrangement.

Performance Notes:

The cornet and euphonium parts may be played on the usual combination of trumpets and trombone as desired. Cornet (Trumpet) 1 will require a piccolo trumpet for one short passage.
